Santokhi encourages international companies to invest in Suriname

On the first day of the second edition of the International Business Conference (IBC 2025), President Chan Santokhi called on international business leaders to explore investment opportunities in key sectors in Suriname. To achieve this, he emphasized the importance of engaging with Surinamese policymakers and economic experts to foster long-term and mutually beneficial growth.

“In collaboration with the Suriname Investment and Trade Agency, our government stands ready to support your investment journey and ensure your success,” said President Santokhi, referring to SITA, which is co-organizing IBC 2025 with the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce.

The three-day event, taking place from February 4 to 6 at Assuria Highrise, aims to bring regional businesses closer together to discuss common challenges, promote growth across various sectors, and enhance the living environment for communities, particularly in the region.

President Santokhi highlighted Suriname’s vast potential in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure and logistics, technology, and digital transformation. He stated that Suriname is strengthening regional ties, particularly with Guyana, to build an economic corridor that fosters trade, connectivity, and shared prosperity. “Globally, we are expanding our partnerships with international institutions, foreign investors, and multinational corporations,” he emphasized.

The president also noted that Suriname, as the most forested country in the world with 93% forest coverage, is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental management. “Our nation will remain carbon-negative by advancing renewable energy initiatives, developing green infrastructure, and promoting eco-tourism enterprises. Additionally, we are modernizing both our public and private sectors through digital transformation to enhance efficiency and global competitiveness,” he stated.

IBC 2025 features 15 business sessions with approximately 100 speakers. More than 25 countries are participating, with over 500 representatives in attendance. Additionally, around 20 companies will have the opportunity to showcase their businesses during the conference.

The first day of the conference focused on trade, policy, ease of doing business, and regional collaboration. Yesterday’s sessions emphasized energy infrastructure and the role of both the public and private sectors. Today, discussions are centered on finance, technology, and local economies.
