Suriname positions itself as a regional investment hub with IBC 2025

The International Business Conference (IBC) – Suriname Edition, scheduled for February 2025, promises to serve as a launchpad for international investors interested in exploring the potential of Suriname and the broader region. The event, organized by the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC), was officially launched on Tuesday at a gathering hosted by the Suriname Trade & Investment Agency (SITA).

Rahul Lildhar, CEO of the SGCC, emphasized the importance of foreign investment in driving growth for both Suriname and Guyana. He highlighted that the IBC provides a pivotal opportunity for companies to network and explore collaborative opportunities that could lead to mutual growth and expansion. SGCC member companies benefit from additional advantages through their partnership with the organization.

SITA CEO Amar Alakhramsing noted that current international interest in Guyana, particularly from the private sector, offers a valuable opportunity for Suriname. “We’re seeing major companies visit Guyana to explore investment prospects. This conference gives us a chance to identify areas where we may need to improve or enhance our offerings,” Alakhramsing said.

Alakhramsing underscored SITA’s strategic role as a bridge between the private sector and the government under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation (BIBIS) in attracting sustainable investments. He encouraged Surinamese entrepreneurs to leverage the IBC to explore international trade strategies and position Suriname as an investment destination.
